There they are standing in a row.
I thought coconut oil deserved its own blog post. I am obsessed with it at the moment.
I use it for pretty much EVERYTHING. From making my own beauty regime products, as an intense conditioning treatment for my curly hair, as a moisturiser for my face and body, and to cook with. It’s pretty much magic. For those of you who have never tried coconut oil, it may confuse you at first, as sometimes it is in a solid state, and others it’s in a liquid state. This is normal! It stays in a solid state when the room you store it in is quite cold. As it heats up, it turns to liquid. If your wondering how to get it as a solid onto your skin, just rub your fingers over it, you’ll get oil on your fingers from it to apply to your skin.
But what are the benefits of coconut oil? If you cook with it, it contains amazing essential fatty acids, it’s a healthier alternative to other cooking oils (I used it when I cook salmon or stirfrys, as it adds a slight coconut taste, YUM) and it helps you burn fat. So it’s perfect if you’re looking for a new health kick.
If you use it on your skin, it’s a natural alternative to expensive body products (I buy my coconut oil from Holland and Barrett and it is usually £7 and lasts AGES) as it contains no parabens or any other nasty chemicals. It also counts as a natural sunscreen (however, I wouldn’t rely on it completely to protect your skin from harmful UV rays).
So overall, it’s truly amazing. I’ll be writing some posts at some point today on how I’ve made my own facial scrub and make-up remover using coconut oil.
But please, don’t rely on my review of coconut oil, go and try it out for yourself!
As I was writing this post, I had a scene from one of my favourite movies, The Lion King, playing in my head with the coconut song. So I thought it was appropriate to name the post after it, and to include the link in the video. ENJOY!
